Young viewers will be dancing around their living rooms and sounding their sirens as Channel Five’s Milkshake! orders up two new series each of popular CGI animations Angelina Ballerina and Fireman Sam for transmission later this year. Both series are produced by leading children’s entertainment producer HIT Entertainment (which also produces Thomas and Friends and Bob The Builder).
The world’s favourite pirouetting mouse, Angelina Ballerina will be dancing back to Channel Five in September with 40 new episodes in series five and six (20 x 12’) of Angelina Ballerina The Next Steps. The series’ will continue to follow Angelina’s progress as she attends Chipping Cheddar’s Camembert Academy, a school for the performing arts. New adventures will see Angelina trying to organise her friends in a Camembert Parade, suffering a bad attack of hiccups before going on stage and learning about the importance of friendships and caring for pets.
Inspired by the award-winning children’s book series by author Katharine Holabird, and illustrator Helen Craig, Angelina Ballerina The Next Steps celebrates music and brings to life many forms of dance including ballet, modern, tap, jazz, classic and ethnic. The show has been a toe-tapping success on the channel with 3.3 million viewers tuning in so far this year (based on 3+ minutes continuous reach)*.
And back on air in October to save the day and keep the streets clear of fire and other incidents is the nation’s favourite fire-fighter Fireman Sam. Milkshake! has bought series six and eight (26 x 10’). The 52 episodes of the CGI animated adventures feature the intrepid little fireman and his colourful cast of friends in the incident-prone Welsh town of Pontypandy. A perennial kids TV favourite, Fireman Sam has been entertaining young fire engine fans since his TV debut twenty- five years ago and has adapted his look through the years to appeal to new generations of fans.
This will be the first time that Channel 5 airs the new look CGI series which brings some new friends and a fresh set of challenges for Sam and his rescue team, including rescuing niece Sarah, when some extreme kiting sees her stuck up a tree; warming up the fire station when it’s hit by a power cut in the snow; and extracting erstwhile trouble maker Norman Price from inside a giant, wooden celebration cake.
