Ever wanted to frame a picture, but couldn't find anything that's cheap or looks good enough? Well, try one of these wooden cartoon frames!

You will need:
  • cardboard box card
  • paint
  • PVA glue
  • silver marker pen
  • black marker pen
Select a picture you want to frame. Take some cardboard box card and draw four planks of cartoon wood around your picture like this.

They don't need to be perfect. Draw two longer ones, and two shorter ones. Give the ends of the lines a nice jagged feel.
Cut them out, and paint them front and back a wood colour, streaking in bits of darker and lighter colours for extra effect.
Add some more wood effects with a black marker pen. Draw a line all the way around the edge, and then give the ends a nice splintered feel.
For more wood effect, add on some spirals for knots and squiggly wispy lines all over the plank.
Design all the planks in the same way, and you'll have something that looks like this. It's a good idea to do both sides.
Take the picture you want to frame, and place the planks on the edge to fit it, putting the longer ones at the top and the shorter ones on the edges.
Draw two nails in each corner - two silver pen circles, with an outline of black pen.
Finally, glue all the corners together.
Follow these techniques for all four corners and leave to dry. Tape some string on the back, and hang it up on the wall. You can design wooden frames in any colour or shape. Just experiment.

Try it yourself!
