Drawing on coloured paper with a white pencil has a really sharp effect.

You will need:
  • White pencil
  • Coloured paper
  • Pencil sharpener
The idea is to just draw normally, as you would with an ordinary pencil.

Draw anything you like. Here you can see Neil doing doing Santa on a sleigh.
Make sure you keep the white pencil very sharp!
Here you can see Neil doing little dots for stars.
Now, instead of shading in the dark bits, use your white pencil to 'light-in' the light bits!

Use the hatching technique - drawing little diagonal whisps on all the light bits. Also use this on all the edges facing the light in your picture.
If your hatching gets a bit untidy, neaten up with lines going the other way.
For really light bits (like Santa's beard!) press harder.
And there you have a white pencil picture!

Try it yourself!
