Make a Tree Monster to guard all your precious treasure!

You will need:
  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard box card
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors
  • Tissue paper
  • PVA glue
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
First, make the main trunk of the tree by rolling a couple of sheets of newspaper into a tube.

Hold the tube in place with sticky tape.
Make a second roll in the same way, then tape both together to form a trunk.

Next, stand the trunk up on one end.

Separate the tubes at the bottom to make the roots, and at the top to make two branches.
Make a base by cutting out wobbly shape from cardboard box card, like this.
Tape the two roots to the middle of the base.

Again, use lots of sticky tape.
Now make lots of newspaper twists and tape them to the top of the tree, for branches.
Position them so that they shoot off from the two main branches.

Don't make them too long - if they're short and spiky they look perfect - just like dead wood.
If you like, you can add branches to the side of the trunk to make arms, with spooky grabbing fingers!
To continue, add a face to the trunk.

Loop some thin twists for eyes...
...and tape them to the trunk.
Small newspaper balls make great pupils, too!
Use a shorter twist of newspaper for a nose.
And another loop is perfect for a scary mouth!
To bring the tree monster to life, paint it!

Use acrylic paints - streak in different shades of grey and brown.
Pick out the facial features on the trunk with darker shades...
...and don't forget to paint the base.
You should now have something that looks like this!
To finish, roughly tear up some tissue paper into thin strips...
...dab a little PVA glue onto one branch at a time, then stick on the tissue paper strips to make drippy, slimy vines!
The finished Tree Monster is perfect for hanging necklaces, bracelets, friendship bands and even your watch!

Try it yourself!
