Some tips to help you quickly highlight areas in pencil drawings.

You will need:
  • A pencil drawing
  • A rubber/eraser
Here's a pencil picture of a cup.

It's OK, but it's rather flat looking.
To bring it to life, it needs a rubber!

You can use it to add in highlights in the areas where the sun or other light is shining on the object.
If you stroke the rubber down one side of the cup you get an instant highlight.

Put in a few bands along the light side.
You can go slightly heavier where the light hits it.
Use a sharp corner of the rubber to pick it more highlights along the raised edges of the top of the cup.
Suddenly it starts to come to life.

You could even cut little bits of rubber if you want to get into more tricky areas.
Try it yourself!
