Use a dishcloth to emulate painting on canvas!

You will need:
  • A clean dishcloth (one you won't need afterwards)
  • Cardboard box card
  • Coffee
  • Pens
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Pasta
  • PVA glue
  • Card
Cover one side of the card with glue, and stick it onto your cloth.
Fold the overhanging edges back over the card, and glue them into place.
There shouldn't be any creases or bubbles.
Mix a little coffee with some water, and use it to paint over the cloth.

It should stain the whole dishcloth a sort of coffee colour, so that it looks old.
When it's dry, it should look like this!
Now decide what masterpiece you'd like to do! Why not try a portrait of one of your ancestors?

Using a pen, draw a rough sketch of yourself (that's probably what your old relations looked like!)
Have a look in some old history books for some ideas of how your ancestors might have dressed.

Don't worry about making mistakes - you'll be painting over it in a bit.
Use poster or acrylic paint.

Paint it on thick - the canvas effect makes the whole thing look like an old oil painting.
When you've finished, you'll be left with something like this!
Why not complete the look by making an old-fashioned frame?

Stick some pasta and twists of cardboard onto some card, and paint it gold.
Then simply attach it to your picture.

Try it yourself!
